During house renovations, it’s only too easy for the smaller areas – like the laundry – to be ignored. However, a well designed laundry will not only look great, it will be convenient and efficient for you and your entire family to enjoy.
While some people would think that the laundry should be the last room to renovate, this is not the case at all. Because the laundry will have similar fixtures and style to the kitchen and/or bathroom, it’s easiest to take care of the laundry renovation at the same time as the bathroom or kitchen renovation.
Many kitchen designers are happy to make plans for your laundry at the same time as your kitchen. This is a great way to keep costs down (by keeping the bill in one place) and also it’ll be a relief to get it out of the way.
Because the only ‘job’ to do in the laundry is to do the washing, it’s important that it is designed and laid out to be easy to do this job. You’ll want an easy flow between the washing machine, washing tub and dryer – you don’t want to be walking from one end of the room to the other just to do this!
Your designer will have a good idea about what will work best in terms of layout and design, however there’s no harm in collecting ideas of what you like to hand on to him/her to get the process started.
While many people have splashbacks in their kitchen, not many consider this in the laundry. Having a laundry splashback not only looks great, but it can make cleaning up easier (if you’re washing clothes the tub)… there’s nothing worse than water stains on the wallpaper!
Adding additional laundry cupboards during your renovation is a great way to create some extra space in the household.
